How do marks differ from scars?
After acne settles, colour or texture changes may remain. A flat dark mark may be post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, while scars can be depressed or raised. Identifying the type helps a dermatologist plan appropriate care. Read more about red marks after acne.
Care for ongoing acne first
Avoid picking or squeezing, follow your treatment plan and protect your skin from the sun. Seek advice if deep acne or scars are developing. Different scar types may require different approaches.
Ask about goals and limitations
- Is this a colour change or a particular scar type?
- Should ongoing inflammatory acne be addressed first?
- What are the risks and limitations of each option?
- What aftercare and follow-up would I need?
Someone else’s photographs cannot predict your outcome. Do not base a decision on promises that all marks will disappear.
