Review medicines before use
If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding, tell your doctor and pharmacist before using acne medicines, including non-prescription topical products. A treatment is not automatically safe because it is applied to skin.
An important precaution
Oral isotretinoin and spironolactone must not be used during pregnancy. Topical retinoids are generally avoided during pregnancy; review your medicines with the prescriber. If you are taking isotretinoin and suspect pregnancy, stop taking it and contact the prescriber immediately.
Discuss your options
Bring a list of medicines and product ingredients. Choice depends on pregnancy stage, health and application area. Breastfeeding needs a separate assessment; pregnancy advice should not automatically be treated as breastfeeding advice.
